Hi Westside Ultimate and prospective Ultimate players, we’re looking forward to a great winter season of mixed/co-ed Ultimate! Please find information below, email [email protected] with any questions.
Winter Co-ed/Mixed High School Ultimate
High School Co-ed or Mixed Ultimate, held during the winter, is defined by playing a gender ratio of 4 Boys: 3 Girls on the field.
DiscNW accepts all people. We recognize that gender does not function as a binary system. We acknowledge that Ultimate Frisbee often employs a gender ratio rule or league division that does not fit our broader understanding of gender identity. No player should be asked to explain or justify their identity. We trust our community to play where they are most comfortable and in accordance with Spirit of the Game. The gender a player identifies with is considered that player’s gender. Please refer to DiscNW’s Gender Inclusion Policy for more information.
Westside Ultimate is planning one Varsity and one JV team, although this will be based on having enough of each gender to form teams.
All girls are welcome, and while all female matchups will be placed on a team, female players should plan to attend tryouts. Please check in with female identifying high school friends and family about trying out Ultimate!
Boys are invited to try out during the first week of November. For this season, we will be limiting the number of players on each team, selected boys will be invited to join a team after tryouts. Any male high school player can try out, regardless if they played with Westside previously or not. If a player is unable to attend tryouts on those dates, arrangements can be made. We will have tryouts Tues/Wed/Thurs, Nov 2-4 (details below), and attendance at all three dates is not mandatory.
If players are from a different school other than West Seattle High School, Coach Gene will work on eligibility for those players with DiscNW. If your current high school has an ultimate team, you will have to play for that team.
Fees
DiscNW will have a sliding scale fee when players register, and ALL players must be registered with DiscNW prior to any play. Westside Ultimate will also have a team fee which almost exclusively pays for fields. The team fee for each season is $70.
Uniforms
Jerseys have been ordered for the majority of players. A kit of 2 jerseys and a pair of shorts is and is $85. Players can also borrow jerseys (if available) or order jerseys with a request for financial assistance. More orders will be happening and we will coordinate with players. In the meantime, a dark and a light of any comfortable shirt is required, and we will work to get everyone set up with Westside gear. Cleats and masks are also required.
Practices and Games
We will be practicing at Delridge Playfield most days, and we’ll let you know if there are changes. Practices will be Mon-Thurs 4-6pm. We are still working out some “kinks”, but this will be the maximum.
Games will be on Saturdays or Sundays and will start in December. Carpool organization will be offered, games may be at Ingraham or Magnusen Park.
Getting to Delridge for practice, in addition to driving, the field is accessible from West Seattle HS by Metro #50 or a 40 min walk. From Chief Sealth by Metro #120 or a 50 min walk. Kennedy is also the #120 and Seattle Lutheran #50 or a 25 min walk.
